Frame-by-frame, done in Photoshop!

[link] Based on my older!Daria concept.

This is essentially just a work in progress. I've been playing around with my Older!Daria concept in a few different ways. This is my first time at drawing frame-by-frame animation and it was really interesting! I hate how inconsistent details become over time, but ultimately I LOVE IT for gesture/detail. There's something about Flash animation I'll just never get.

This is history! Mostly.

It's also progress. Because on the other side is someone winking and being flirtatious. Good stuff!

The animation is very spot-on and it's quite rare to see Daria smile, let along wear clothing like that

"... So I drew this by hand digitally... What kind of animation is that? Oh well!"

Frame by frame digital animation, although you'd call it by the name of the program you'd use. So Flash animation, frame by frame - you wouldn't need to mention that it's frame by frame, because it's not like it's hidden all that well (no offense intended).

Also, Daria! :la:

Let me guess... Trent's the one winking, right? ;P Very cute (as I said on PPMB), and I like the sketchiness, too. :) Can't wait to see what else you have in store! :D

Very cool. Hand drawn animation has a much more organic feel to it.

Tell me about, which is why I prefer it more then 3D animation. Don't get me wrong I like it, but it's become so over used so much that it's starting to make hand drawn animation look under rated these days, which is very quite sad in my opinion cause to me 3D animation is cool n’ stuff, but I think it focus more on the detail and texture, rather then the art style, plus I feel like artist use 3D animation more then hand drawn animation these days because 1. It involves less effort and time, 2. Artist these days (apparently) believe that hand drawn animation is plan, boring, and dry, and 3. Cost less money. But like I said that’s just my opinion. What’s yours?

I look at 3D cg animation as merely new medium for animation and not something that replaces or supersedes an existing medium. It's more closely related to stop motion puppet animation, and much like hand drawn 2D animation, stop motion possesses some charm in it's imperfections.

As for your points...
1. it does not involve less time and effort, the work is merely displaced to other areas.
2. Artist's have many varied opinions of what is the "best" medium, but for practicality it's in their best interests to go with whatever is in demand at the time.
3. Costing less money is another myth. The bulk cost of any animated project comes from the total man hours spent. Both 3D cg and hand drawn animation require an army of artists and technical personnel working hundreds of hours. The more total time a project is willing to spend (assuming you have decent artists) the better the end product tends to look.

Well I guess so, I'm just tired of nearly every animated movie being in 3D, Disney recently have been making 2D films again, so hopefully that's a sign that 2D animation is making a slow comeback.

There has been advancements in 2D cg animation programs as well that will hopefully revitalize traditional 2D shows and movies.

I love this animation! It's very subtly cute. Mad props for you and Daria. Is flash something I can access from photoshop, or no?

I'm kind of an animation novice :P

It was actually all hand-drawn in Photoshop and just put together in Photoshop! Go up to Window>Animation. There should be a toolbar pop up at the bottom. Essentially, I just drew a frame, made a new one over the top with a subtle change, made a new layer over that, subtle change etc.

It gets surprisingly easy after a while. ^__^ This was about... 25 frames. The only issue for me is clean=up/refining. .__.;

A very good effort. AS you mention, there are a few details that need consistency, but otherwise lovely.

Oh, and Older!Daria is HOT!!!

When I go over it for "final" animation purposes I'll fix up the icky details. Hopefully. xD

But thank you!
